FOSS in the Philippines is alive

I've just encountered iosn.net today and WOW I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought Free Open Source Software (FOSS) in the Philippines is only concentrated in the academe and I was darn wrong (and I'm very happy at that).

As you may well know, Sitesphil is an advocate of opensource technologies and in a Microsoft-centric country like ours, its very rare to see this kind of institutions. Anyways, I have just joined the network (UNDP-APDIP International Open Source Network) and I am happy to report that there is an upcoming event that they will be sponsoring, Asia Source 3 (How I hope my boss would allow me to join).

Kudos to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada for this establishing project and I hope that Open Source will continue to grow.

The IOSN regional node for our country is located at University of the Philippines Manila National Telehealth Center and serves the ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam) including China, Japan and Republic of Korea.
